Today begins our new community of the New England Islands

Today, May 1, 2010, begins the new community of the New England Islands. Together with our sister community of New England Village, we hope to face the future as stronger institutions, with homes we can enjoy for many years to come. In the next few days, Linden Lab will make the final changes to our sim arrangement. We'll be a cluster of 29 sims, which will include the sims with parcels: Marthas Vineyard, The East End, and Marblehead, plus all our homesteads. New England Village will be the town and commercial sims, plus the gateway sim Boston Light and Watch Hill and Block Island. We'll make a nice map for this site, so you can clearly see who is who.

While New England Islands will not have any official events, the residents are strongly encouraged to hold their own events and parties, either at their homes (remember that homesteads only hold 20 people!) or at our new, "under construction" community center at Fort Sewell on the northwest corner of Marblehead. We also have a calendar here on this site if you have a party that you'd like to invite your fellow residents to. Please give info about your party to me, Delphina, Sommer or Ceorl if you'd like to list it.

We'll have lots more news in the coming days. Please feel free to comment here, or reach me directly if you'd like.

  1. Congratulations on the new developments! I'm looking forward to seeing the completion of the Fort Sewell community center on Marblehead.

I'm also looking forward to that MAP for sure, because I'm one of the people who doesn't know the boundaries of the 29 sim New England Island territory. With so many sims in it, it is easy to forget when you finally cross out of it into another land.

I can't really tell for sure from your description above, but as a "sister community" does it mean that the New England Village IS or IS NOT part of the New England Islands? (I'm guessing IS, but usually when you are a "sister something," you are OUT somewhere else in the world.

  2. Dahlia, you see, that's part of the dilemma. "Legally" New England Village is a separate estate owned by another person (Gayle Cabaret), so, yes, it is *not* part of the New England Islands.

But New England Islands and New England Village were formed by sad financial necessity, when as I was planning a massive downsizing of New England, Gayle came to the rescue and offered to maintain the Village sims on her own. Gayle served for years as one of the New England estate managers, and there are many others besides Gayle who kind of straddle the history of the two estates.

So, while we are not remotely separated, nor are we legally "part of each other", we are sisters in sharing a long common history, and a fervent intent to carry on as beautiful New England sims with wonderful people and great events.
